Over the course of four years I researched various practices on improving performance and productivity. I studied yoga, tai chi, hypnotherapy, neuro science and neuro linguistic programming. I tested advanced breathing exercises, mind exercises, self hypnosis and chi techniques.  Over that period I saw some great results:  I learnt how to sleep better, I learnt to become more productive, more focused and, one of the most surprising but most powerful, I learnt how to increase my energy.  Not only did I have more energy to get things done in and out of work, I found myself more productive in the evening, when I would usually have a lull, and able to work longer into the night.

So how does it work? Well here’s the theory

We live in cycles of stress….

We’ve all experienced the stress cycle before: a particular stressful period in life results in poor sleep, which leads to a poor start to the day the next morning.  We feel tired, underpar and have reduced concentration resulting in lower  performance and productivity throughout the day.  We finish the day exhausted and frustrated about what we didn’t get done or how hard we had to work to produce what we did.  We carry worries from the day into the night resulting in a poor nights sleep.  We repeat that cycle the next day.

The problem is our bodies are only supposed to handle stress for short periods of time.
