What is Brain entrainment?

The Zone Mind Programs included in the Zone Life System utilize a powerful technology called brain entrainment. This uses complex soundwaves to help you achieve mental states that most people would find difficult to do by themselves. Research has shown that brain entrainment can be used to create any type of mental state, from a soothing, calm, relaxed state to being wide awake and full of energy. Our normal brain state is dependent on our state of mind and our emotional we can through intense training and meditation get our mind into different mental states, however brain entrainment accelerates this
Example of changing your mental state :
The normal waking state of our brain is called the Beta state, see below. This is when we are doing our everyday activities. Lowering the brain wave frequency to Alpha would help to quieten the mind of distractions, increase concentration and help you retain information better. A further lowering to theta would be ideal for getting to sleep.

Wave Frequency Associated Mental State

Wave Brainwave Frequency Associated Mental state
Beta 12hz - 38hz Wide awake.

This is generally the mental state most people are in during the day and most of their waking lives.

Usually, this state in itself is uneventful, but don't underestimate its importance. Many people lack sufficient Beta activity, which can cause mental or emotional disorders such as depression, ADD and insomnia. Stimulating Beta activity can improve emotional stability, energy levels, attentiveness and concentration.
Alpha 8hz - 12hz Awake but relaxed and not processing much information.

When you get up in the morning and just before sleep, you are naturally in this state. When you close your eyes your brain automatically starts producing more Alpha waves.

Alpha is usually the goal of experienced meditators, but to enter it using NP2 is incredibly easy. Since Alpha is a very receptive, absorbent mental state, you can also use it for effective self-hypnosis, mental re-programming, accelerated learning and more.
Theta 3hz - 8hz Light sleep or extreme relaxation.

Theta can also be used for hypnosis, accelerated learning and self-programming using pre-recorded suggestions.
Delta 0.2hz - 3hz Deep, dreamless sleep.

Delta is the slowest band of brainwaves. When your dominant brainwave is Delta, your body is healing itself and "resetting" its internal clocks. You do not dream in this state and are completely unconscious.

What are Brainwaves?

Your brain is made up of billions of brain cells called neurons, which use electricity to communicate with each other. The combination of millions of neurons sending signals at once produces an enormous amount of electrical activity in the brain, which can be detected using sensitive medical equipment (such as an EEG), measuring electricity levels over areas of the scalp.

The combination of electrical activity of the brain is commonly called a BrainWave pattern, because of its cyclic, "wave-like" nature.

Below is one of the first recordings of brain activity.

How the entrainment works

Brain entrainment uses a principle of physics defined as the ‘synchronisation of two rhythmic cyles’.
If a tuning fork is struck and produces a certain tone and then brought into the vicinity of another tuning fork tuned to the same tone, the second tuning fork will begin to vibrate in response to the first one. The first tuning fork is said to have entrained the second or caused it to resonate. The physics of entrainment apply to biological systems as well, in this case the brain. By using sound of a similar frequency as that of the brain, the brain will respond and synchronise over time to the frequency of the sound similar to the tuning fork. This is called entrainment.
